An archive and a practice
Katarche
καταρχή katarchḗ, “a beginning”: the chart cast for the moment something starts.
Charts to the second, for world events and for your clients.
An archive of world events, each chart cast from a cited timestamp and place, free to read. And the tools of an astrologer’s practice: natal, mundane, electional, horary and financial.

The chart of this moment

- Ascendant—
- Midheaven—
- Sun—
- Moon—
Watch the Ascendant. The horizon moves about a degree every four minutes, the Moon half a degree an hour. That is why nothing in this archive is rounded to the minute.

A live wheel shows that a second matters, but not where a time came from. Every entry records that, as this one does.

Two sources disagree. 9/11 Commission Report gives 8:46:40 AM EDT; NIST NCSTAR 1 gives 8:46:30 AM EDT. Both are recorded on the entry, and the chart says which one it uses.

How it works
1 · A sourced moment
Every entry names its source and keeps the time as precisely as that source gives it. When sources disagree, the entry records each time instead of quietly choosing one. Nothing is rounded to the minute.
2 · Astronomy to the second
Each time is converted to universal time with the IANA time-zone database. The Katarche Ephemeris, this site’s own engine over a kernel refitted from JPL’s DE440, then casts the chart. Its positions are checked against JPL Horizons and the Swiss Ephemeris: on September 11, 2001 the planets agree within 0.52″ and the Moon within 0.97″ (every figure). Every chart can be cast again from the raw records.
3 · Charts you can question
Hellenistic, Modern, Medieval and Vedic traditions from one calculation. An inner wheel for a nation, an institution or a person. Applying and separating aspects, dignities, sect. No automatic interpretation.
